Miscellaneous On The Farm

It's day to day here on the farm as we approach fall.

We are still wearing masks when we go to town shopping, even though we've been vaccinated and still surprised by the number of people who don't.

There is still plenty of grazing for the nice neighbor farmer's cows.

They have appreciated having the water tank available to the point where I have added another to keep up with their demand.

"Skunk" the farm cat wanders everywhere and the cows are inquisitive.

It's almost to the point where the cat is always underfoot or in the way.

That is until it is time for a siesta.

Recently I picked up a disk at a farm auction and spent some time straightening the bends and refurbishing it.

Fall is one of the best times of the year here on the farm.  Unfortunately, it means that winter will not be far behind.

  1. Yes, winter is starting to show, it is not going to be long now. Are you heading South this year?

    1. Winter in the South is over for us, unless it is a shorter stay. Grandkids and helping our kids has become the priority. We sold our fifth wheel in Arizona and still have the truck camper, so we'll see.

    2. That is too bad but "life" happens to us all. I have resisted selling the motorhome knowing that if I did, I would immediately regret it so.. it is still parked in the corner of my lot.

  2. Lucy" has got it right!...It's been a bad time for skunks & Rockyracoons up here in NC Washington...Road Kill...I couldn't believe it when I saw a crow or Raven feeding on a skunk the other day...ICK...Some have no taste-smell?

    1. This has been the year for road kill here also. Seems like an abundance of raccoons and possums.

  3. Skunk, looks content with his siesta in a box.

    1. Hard to figure when there are plenty of other more comfortable spots.

  4. Is it truly a scientifically established certainty that cows are categorically solely herbivorous? My doubts on this subject are raised by those two pictures of them eyeing the cat. I mostly don't get that curious about anything unless there is some prospect of it ending up as dinner.

  5. Glad you are still finding things constructive to occupy your time. I don't mind the Winter it's that white stuff that I don't want to deal with.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. Same here. No desire to deal with snow, other than enjoy the scenery.

  6. Or maybe the cat is eyeing a nice ribeye steak...

  7. Really cute farm cat you have. We had barn cats when I was a kid, they loved the cows. One was very tame and would drive me nuts when I was on the ground fixing farm equipment. Putting the water out for the cows was a great move, as they always come for water and then hang around. We had one behind the house just for cow viewing. Nice looking disk for a 40hp tractor.
We are still alive and doing the same things in life. Vaccinated, wear masks in public and stay away from most people. We enjoyed 15 nights on the beach in our old beater of a camper. Then an acrobatic ride in Las Vegas. Getting cold here in Alaska.

    1. This cat is always underfoot. I keep telling her to get out there and get a mouse. Cow viewing is relaxing and we enjoy having them around. Thanks for the comments Tom. Stay warm up there.
