Oktoberfest Continues

Saturday I hitched up the camper and headed to another Oktoberfest (sort of) in Geneva, NE.  The flyer made it look inviting and I had no other plans so off I went.

This was a community fundraiser by the local Rotary Club and while it wasn't exactly Oktoberfest authentic it was still entertaining with two bands and Märzen style canned beer.  It was held at the county fairgrounds and with permission I parked the camper in an adjoining grass field.

Sunday morning, after a quiet night in the camper, I went to a Czech dinner at the Methodist Church.

They even had a few guys playing accordions.  Nice.

All in all it made for a nice weekend.  This coming weekend I have two Oktoberfest events on my calendar in different parts of the state.  What to do... what to do...

Oktoberfest! Prost!

This weekend my wife, our son and I attended Oktoberfest at the German-American Society in Omaha and it was crowded.  There were several tents and each was crammed full, including several rooms inside the club building.

It seemed like half of Omaha was there.  Other than the crowds, there was plenty of good German beer, entertainment and food.

Beer mugs could be purchased in various sizes and they were more than happy to fill them up at the beer tents.

Our son was kind enough to be our designated driver, so I was able to get my mug filled several times over.  My heritage is 100% German, so the German-American Society Oktoberfest proved to be fun.

Weekend Road Trip

This weekend was another brewery road trip.  My wife came along and on Friday we went back to the Lazy Horse Brewery in Ohiowa.  This time we took the camper and found a spot at an NRD lake near the brewery.  Lazy Horse has certainly proven to be at the top of my list for good beer and food.

Nothing better than an oatmeal stout and firewood oven pizza.

Not only is the interior nice, they have thought out all the details, including a patio overlooking the open fields.

Lazy Horse is located about 5 miles on a country road, literally on someone's farmstead.

On Saturday we took a short drive to Milligan for their annual Czech Brewfest.

Plenty of Czech beer and food, as well as Czech bands.

Representatives of the RUDOLF JELÍNEK COMPANY from the Czech Republic were there with their brandies and liqueurs.

That weekend is history, which leaves planning for the area Oktoberfest celebrations.

Trip To Kansas

On Saturday my friends and I went along with my son to Kansas to pick up an engine he had rebuilt.  He dropped my two friends and me off at the Irrigation Ales Brewery in Courtland (pop. 294) while he picked up the engine.

We have been there once before and had their stout.  Since they didn't have any on tap this time I had their lager, which is similar to a Mexican style pilsner.

Kudos to the young couple who have opened the craft brewery in a small rural Kansas community.

On the way home we stopped at a brewpub we have been to in the past in another small rural town of Ohiowa, Nebraska (pop.112).  The Lazy Horse Brewery is located several miles in the country on several acres.

Lazy Horse Brewery generally has a good selection of beers, including our favorite milk stout.

They also make some of the best wood fired oven pizza.

This is one of the best brewpubs in the area, unfortunately it is a 70 mile drive to get there.  I just might have to consider hooking up the camper this fall and parking there for a day or two.
